From Governor Rochas Okorocha, allegedly denying that lives were lost as a result of the demolition, to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visiting the family of one of the victims, to the elders of the town allegedly invoking the spirit of the forefathers on the governor.

In a latest development, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who once nursed ambitions of becoming the governor of Imo state under PDP, decided to pay a condolence visit to the family of late Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, the 10-year-old who was hit by a stray bullet during the demolition of the market.

EKEUKWU OWERRE RELOCATION: THE WORKING WOUNDED, AND BRINGING SUCCOUR NOT JUST TO THE FAMILY OF IBEANUSI BUT TO ALL... Ka ndi IMO raraume
Today, Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume yet again reassured the masses and the good people of Imo State that he is with them even in grieving times like this. This is not the time to play politics, and whatever happened today has nothing to do with politics as mischief makers has already projected it from the corrupt altar of their ind...ividual mindsets.
Anyone who know Senator Araraume too well knows he doesn't play petty politics, he faces the facts and real art of the game when the time comes. I remember how he called me into his office at the eve of this demolition, only focussing his entire attention on the online published videos and portraits of the little girl whose brother was shot, for the first time in my years with Araraume, I saw a man i believed to be stronger than I can imagine almost shedding tears and his phone slipping off his arms. "Oh! What a loss, a future president is gone!"
Are we this short 'memoried' that we have forgotten when he did exactly the same thing in 2005 when a reckless trailer driver crushed Owerri girls students in their numbers? Did we forget that Senator Araraume was perplexed when he went to FMC to see the surviving ones and heard that one of them died minutes after battling with survival in the hospital due to lack of life saving machines and he instantly made donation of life saving machines, Electronics and Manuals, which he imported from London and donated immediately, those machines are still in use till date.
While in Abuja he insisted, "No! Darlington we must visit home, the videos and pictures of this young girl cuddling and grieving over the death of her brother has taken over my bed and pillows, it goes to bed before me and wouldn't let me sleep. I cannot be in Abuja while my people languish in pain and agony. I must go home even if it means stepping in the crossfire, let me grief with them and feel this pain with them. Listen Darlington, as leaders, we must learn to take responsibility for our actions and inactions directly and indirectly, while we try to make amends and positive changes that has the powers to rewrite the wrongs". This powerful speech from Senator Araraume to me on Thursday morning got me speechless.
Senator Araraume didn't just come back for coming back sake, but showed love and compassion. When we got to the Ibeanusi's, the little girl wasn't at home but he insisted we must wait for her to come no matter how long it takes. He equally visited Chief Leonard Osuji, an Owerre leader also injured.
Amongst other things...
1. He gave the little girl whose brother was shot scholarship from secondary to university level through (Destiny Foundation).
2. He is paying the lease (rent) of 1,000 shops for the affected traders whenever the shops are ready at the new relocating site under construction by the Rescue Mission Government.
3. He made a donation of reasonable amount to FMC as the deposit for the treatment of the other victims (I wouldn't mention the amount here because it's wow ...men dey here)
4. He gave them donations in cash each, as feeding allowances, gave other patients in same ward feeding allowances as well, then promised to pay up 100% the bills of those victims immediately they are fit for discharge.
5. Instructed the doctors to do everything within their powers to make sure all the necessary drugs and attention are given to them no matter the cost.
6. He also advised that should their be any need to fly any of them abroad for proper medical attention, that they should not hesitate to call his attention for the arrangements.
7. Promised the family justice for their dead son.
Today, little did I know his plans as he pulled another surprise by boldly taking up the challenge and responsibility beyond my own imagination.
In his words, "the government is designed to be the people's government and should be for the people. No government would wish her subjects death because no king reigns without subjects and no leader leads without followership. Though the planning and implementation may seem inappropriate, but it doesn't literally convey that the governor doesn't mean well for his people. I believe in dialogue and rule of law and that is why many of you have captured me in your publications seeking redress through the ambits of law whenever I feel any irregularity in both civil and political issues instead of causing troubles".
As a people, we must learn to appreciate good tidings, we must learn to appreciate little gestures even when hatred springs up from that biased part of our minds. Atimes, you criticize / blame a man for what he is doing and also blame and criticize him for what he is not doing because you don't really see what he sees, how he feels and he will not just tell you all these. But when you find yourself in his shoes, you begin to see reasons with him.
Call it politics, call it whatever you like, Araraume has saved a situation, the people are happy. Blessed is the hand that giveth. A wonderful man of valour, God is with you.
